Day 11 - New drill and focus point

IT'S A DAY OFF:

swim training

Here's a new drill and a new focus point for tomorrow's workout. YOUR NEW DRILL is Slide-Glide Balance with Breathing (SGBB). This is a version of the Slide-Glide Balance (SGB) drill. In SGBB, after you get balanced and take several breaths in the nose-up position, turn your head so your nose points toward the bottom of the pool, and exhale underwater. As you finish exhaling, turn your head again so you're in the nose-up position. Take several breaths in this position before you do another underwater exhalation. The only thing that moves in this drill is your head; your body should always stay in the same balanced side-lying position. As you practice this drill, keep taking fewer breaths each time you turn your head to the nose-up position, until you turn your head only for a single breath. Do this drill on both sides. YOUR NEW FOCUS POINT is the "long reach." With each roll, be aware that the arm entering the water continues to move forward to full extension as you complete the roll. It's as if you're reaching and stretching toward the far end of the pool.
